Ferenc Fricsay was born in Budapest, where he studied music under Bela Bartok, Zoltan Kodaly and Ernst von Dohnanyi. He was musical director of the German RIAN Symphony Orchestra, and excellent recordings of the work of Bartok are available on CD.
